StyleCrush| Winter Coats

I've been spending a lot of time on Tumblr these past few days (as per usual) and the one thing key that seems to have caught my eye is the way everyone seems to be styling their winter coats. And although I already have my winter cape I feel like it's not enough on it's own to get me through the winter months.
After seeing this I have been driving myself crazy looking for a coat that fits what I have in mind. I want it to be stylish, versatile and most of all warm (very essential).

This is all well and good if it was not for the fact that I'm so fussy: I went to the boxing day sales recently and I bypassed all the coats I saw, they were either too ill fitting or too loud and all this did was leave me more determined to find that perfect winter coat. So naturally I came home and went online and did a massive hunt around all my usual haunts and finally I settled on two, with the intention of sending back the one i like the least.
I can't wait till they arrive so I can take my pick :)
Did you find anything exciting in the boxing day sales?

Merry Christmas

Happy Christmas everyone, I hope you are having a lovely day with your family and friends
Now my pile of presents was not this big by any means but I thought this was a fitting picture for today.
Happy holidays guys :) x

The Most Basic OOTD

Jumper: H&M, Jeans: Topshop, Necklace: New Look, Ring: New Look, Boots: River Island, Earrings: River Island

This is what I wore when my parents came to take me home from university. I kept it pretty simple so I was comfortable enough to shift my things from the house in to the car it worked out pretty well. the journey was pretty standard and we made it home in a couple of hours.
I've been home for about a week now and I am loving it. I've been wearing cozy things and eating home cooked food in true homesick-child fashion.
For now though  I'm just ready and waiting for Christmas so I can get even more festive :)

On another topic who else is happy the world didn't end today?

So I have been a little quiet recently, I don't know if anyone noticed.
The reason is because I have just had an insane amount of of coursework to get through. I being the great time waster that I am left it all until last minute and I spent this week panicking. Anyhow it's all over now, back to the post;
On my way back from handing my work in, I stopped in Tesco and got the magazine and chocolate as a little treat. The chocolate is already gone but I'm still making my way through the magazine. I'm liking alright so far but i think I'm more of a Company girl. But this one came with free Nails Inc. polish so it was a must buy. The colour is gorgeous; that statement red that every girl needs in a collection and I like how it looks with my skin tone so I have it on right now.
Now that I have all this free time I am going to have to catch up with all the things I put off because of work so that means laundry time yaay *insert sarcasm here*

Christmas: Student Edition

Hi guys, I hope you're having a good week.
I just wanted to show you our Christmas decorations that we put up yesterday. I know they are not nearly as awesome as the home decorations parents always do but, we were proud of our work haha. I was the designated sellotape assistant and I was running around handing sellotape to everyone so the lights and tinsel could stay up.
Also check out out amazing advent calendars one my housemates bought us. Mine is the middle one with all the Mr. Men and Little Miss characters, i feel sort of bad for eating one character a day, but they are just so tasty.
Sorry about the bad photography, there is literally no natural lighting in out living room.

Have your decorations gone up yet?

Lecture Day

Skull top: H&M, Blazer: Thrifted, Scarf: Mom's, Jeans: Topshop, Bag: Ebay, Wedges: New Look

Happy Friday guys, I hope you're all well. I just thought to show you what I wore to my lecture today because I was quite happy with how it looked all put together.
May I just say how much I'm loving my new bag, its just the best thing I've ever had. It just goes with everything and I love how it looks simple but can go with anything dressy as well. That Alexander Wang is a genius (even though mine is a knock off, but shhh!)
What are you loving in particular?

Winter Wishlist...

Winter wishlist

From left to right: Trilby hat,  Dior Dolce Vita,  Samsung Galaxy SIII,,  Lust Solid Perfume,
Urban Decay Naked2 Palette, Topshop Khol Eyeliner in Black.

Hi everyone, I've been seeing a lot of Christmass/Winter wishlist out there and it got me thinking about what I really want before winter's end. Anyhow I naturally had to make a wishlist of my own, and these are the things I'm crying for this Christmas.
Now I don't necessarily want these specific products (even thought it would be amazeballs if I got them all) but it's more what they represent. Like I don't see myself spending over £40 for a single make-up palette however it would be great if I were to get a neutral eyeshadow palette. I'd be perfectly happy with a Sleek one for example. The only actually product I'm dying to have is the Samsung Galaxy SIII because I  really want to get an android phone again because Blackberry is just terrible and I can't wait to ditch my Torch.

What are your winter must-haves?

November Buys

So with this month being my birthday month I went a little bit crazy in the shopping department considering my meager student budget. I rationalized all this crazy spending as "birthday treats" otherwise I would have never spent as much money as I have this month. Anyhow picture time:

This is like the general picture of all my purchases excluding a couple of big this I will show further down. I know it doesn't look like much but I was looking for just a few pieces that could breather some life into my current wardrobe and beauty regime.

Kate Moss for Rimmel lipstick in '17' and Rimmel 5 in 1 Base and Topcoat
To start off with is this red lipstick I bought it in the shade '17' which is fairly dark and burgundy like as i thought it would match my dark skin tone more than a bold bright red one would do. And I also got a clear polish which also acts as a nail treatment because my nails are really quite fragile and I'm in the market for something that will stop them splitting and ruining my nail varnish.

Organix Nourishing Coconut Milk shampoo and Aussie Dual Personality Anti Frizz+ Conditioning Milk

Well these are pretty self explanatory really but I cant go by without giving them a mention; this shampoo is actually amazing. Its a protein shampoo which means it maintains the keratin in your and and makes it stronger and decreases the likelihood of breakage. An added bonus is that it is sulphate free, for those of you on a hair journey and it smells  like coconuts which is just so heavenly. I don't really have a review for the Aussie product yet as I have only used it once so far, but I'm hoping for good things because my hair really needs something to combat the frizz, especially because it's winter because the air is always so humid, meaning I can't go outside for 30 minutes without my hair transforming into a rather deflated afro :(

Beanie: New Look, Ear cuff: H&M
I have been seeing everyone around with beanies recently and normally this puts me off buying an item but in reference to my earlier bad hair day issues I figured it might make a more appealing way to leave the house. I also got the ear cuff's because I was wanting to add a little edge to my ear wear haha. And I thought it was a relatively simple way to make any outfit a little cooler.

 Jumper: H&M, Wedges: New Look

Who doesn't love a good pair of wedges? I originally got these in black and I loved them so much that I went back and got this pair. I stalked them for a while and it payed off because I got them on sale for five pounds less than the original price. The jumper, I just couldn't resist because everything about it just called out to me; the colour, the fit, just everything. Its very lose knit though so a lot of layers are needed underneath.
Alexander Wang Rocco 'inspired bag': eBay

I saw this bag on Beauty Crush and I just had to have it. I took it with me to uni on friday and I was just so happy with it. I really love the long strap on it and it is just so big, you could fit loads in there and still have room for extras. It is definitely my staple bag for this autumn as I see it coordinating with loads of my outfits. The only trouble with it is that it has gold studs so I feel like I cant wear it with my silver jewelery but this is easily fixable, i'll just get the same bag in grey: that one comes with silver studs hehe!

Have you been shopping lately, what new in your closet?

Tribal/Aztec Nails

I watched this tribal nails tutorial recently and I got inspired to try and do my own version. the perfect opportunity came yesterday when I was on skype with my friend and I wanted something to keep me busy as we chatted. So I got out my nail polish and created these nails.
They aren't the traditional aztec print but i wanted something a little more toned down that the usual aztec which can look quite busy if overdone. To combat this I only did the print on one side of my nails just to give the whole thing some character and I also used a pastelly lilac colour because I didn't have a white nail polish on hand. What do you think?

Happy Birthday To Me

Blazer: H&M, Cami: Primark, Shorts: New Look, Belt: New Look, Scarf: Mum's

Another year gone, another year older and I suppose at this stage I have to accept that I'm finally an adult even though it doesn't feel like it. For my big two-one birthday I made the trip back home to celebrate with my family and they surprised me with a trip to Brighton. So when I got home I got all packed for the second time and off we went to Brighton for the couple of days.
There we had a little wander around The Lanes and I loved popping into the shops around there because I don't see a large majority of them where my uni is. But alas they were quite expensive so I couldn't indulge myself too much. Anyhow I had a good time window shopping and enjoying the area, I only wish we'd had more time to look around before it got overly windy and miserable outside.
And finally after my little home break I came back to uni only to be treated with another birthday cake (the one pictured above) from my housemates. So this week I've definitely had more than my fair share of baked goods and just food in general but I enjoyed myself imensely

Autumn Hues

Jumper: H&M, Jacket: Ebay. Skirt: ASOS, Boots: New Look

I realised recently that Autumn has always been a season I always seem to under appreciate. It has something to do with my strong dislike for the cold that follows this season. However when you look at it objectively it is one of the more exciting seasons, reflected in the way in many ways; the way the air is always crisp and cool and also the amazing colours that are everywhere you look. And of course from a fashion perspective it is that season in which you can add unimaginable amounts of layers without the fear of boiling to death.
Anyhow I tried to reflect that in this outfit I wore yesterday to go about my daily business, with all the muted hues that are perfect for autumn and I don't think it turned out badly at all.

Make-Up: Is it really worth all the effort?

I think that we're all in agreement when we say that make-up is used mostly as a way to enhance the features you already have. For example a little mascara and eyeliner to help your eyes stand out, or maybe some lip gloss. But my question is, when does make-up start to hide your natural features?

I was just watching a couple of make-up tutorials on youtube and it just dawned on me that women are now spending a lot of time and money to make themselves look great to the outside world but not necessarily to themselves. What always shocks me is the stark difference between the before and after footage of someones face when make up comes into play. It just seems to me that people are appearing to not be too concerned about their face's health because it may seem that make-up will fix any apparent blemish they have. Now I may be very old fashioned in my approach to making myself look presentable but I just don't see it being feasible to spend hundreds of pounds on an endless list of products that will make you look great in the public eye, especially not if no one is going to be able to recognize you when you take off your make up at night.

I think women, especially young women, strive to be the best version of themselves in order to appear more desirable to the outside world. Of course there is nothing wrong with this in itself but I think a large percentage are now starting to misinterpret this desire as the need to cake their faces in a thousand products in the name of cosmetology when in reality they don't really need to spend countless hours in front of the mirror contouring their faces to perfection.

Now don't get me wrong I'm just like the next girl and I love make-up for its versatility and it's ability to enhance any outfit but I think in some of case it's all just gotten out of hand. It used to be a simple thing to get ready for an event but now, especially with the rise of the youtube guru I fear that girls may begin to under appreciate or even neglect their natural beauty in favour of something of something that's being market to them by the ever present internet.

I don't know if I have articulated myself very well in this article at all but I hope my thoughts on the issue have been made clear without offending anyone. If anyone reads it to be sure :)

Winter Essentials

Winter cape: Dorothy Perkins, Pyjama shorts: Primark, Fluffy Slippers: New Look

So I've been gone for a while, and I've been busy getting prepared for winter. Normally I dread this time of year but for some reason I am excited as hell for A/W 2012.
In preparation I got myself some slippers for those days when you want to laze around the house.
And to overstate, my most coveted winter item this year is my winter cape that I got. These have made a big appearance on the catwalk recently and by chance I walked into Dorothy Perkins and there it was, just calling to me and I gave in. Im happy to admit that I gave into temptation for once.

In The Middle of Nowhere..

Wrestling T-shirt: eBay, Jeans: Topshop, Wedges: New Look, Cross Earrings: Topshop

On the way back to school last weekend. I chose something nice and simple to wear, I chose for comfort (after considering all the boxes I would be helping to shift back into my house for University).
Excuse the busy background, these were taken in the middle of the motorway. Thankfully I have now finished unpacking now so I can start looking forward to freshers week, and can finally start catching up on your blogs :)

Johnson's Daily Essentials, hydrating 24 hour Day Cream
                                    Jemma Kidd I-Glamour Define Eyeliner
Dove Indulgent Nourishment Body Lotion with Shea Butter
Mitchum Advance Control Deodorant in Unperfumed

Just a few essentials that needed picking up, and i can't say I'm dissapointed with my purchases - well the ones I've tried anyway.

Johnson's Face Cream:
This is amazing, it has changed how I feel about my face. My face has very sensitive skin and smallest change can wreak havoc on my face. But ever since i started using this my face has had no complaints. This summer my skin had not been as good as it normally is. When I moved back from University my face broke out despite not changing my routine; I could only put it down to the change in water. Anyway I'm still trying to recover from that and this has just fit it with my new face routine and I look forward to using it every morning!

Jemma Kidd eyeliner:
This eyeliner goes on so smooth. It acts a little like a liquid eyeliner to me even though it isn't. I got it in 01 black and it glides on so easily, it's not one of those that you have to go over loads of times before it starts showing, another perk is that it has a 'smudger' on the other side for when you want that smoky look. I'm a big fan of the smoky eye so you won't see me complaining. I'm definitely happy with this.

Dove Shea Butter Lotion:
This smells so nice I can't even...I'm in a bit of a Shea butter phase right now and this just fits in with that. I just love how good it is for your skin and the smell is always a great bonus. This is for dry skin so it's very moisturising for my regular skin.

Mitchum Unperfumed deodorant:
Well what can I say. It does the job!

And finally:

Nice new boots...because winter is coming!
I got these from New Look and i love the animal print detailing around the top of the shoe. It sold them to me!

Are you looking forward to Autumn 2012, because i certainly am!

A Very Amateur OOTD

Blazer: Thrift, T-shirt: New Look, Jeans: Dorothy Perkins, Shoes: New Look

My first OOTD, this is what I wore to Church this morning. I always try to keep it simple but a little bit dressy (if you could call it that) and i think i did quite well in that regard.
This is the first time I've worn this blazer since I got it a few weeks ago and i must say I am a great fan. I got it at the thrift store near my work for such a great price I could hardly believe it. Normally I'm not good at thrifting, I just never seem to know how to browse properly and it ruins my mojo so to speak. Anyhow, I think the blue on blue worked quite well together and it's something I'll try to put together more often.

2. Tan Shopping Bag - Zara

Hair Goodies

From the left: 1.SoftSheen Carson, Wave Nouveau: Moisturising Finishing lotion 2. Cantu: Shea Butter 3.Sweet Almond Oil

I started my hair journey just after Christmas last year when my cousin pointed out the grave mistakes us black women have made when dealing with our hair, from "hair food" to the creamy crack that we all seem to love so much. Then she gave me a link to Phrophro's which gave me the basics i need to know for me to begin my hair journey.

So a few months in and I have a pretty sizable collection of hair oils and hair products but i hadn't gotten to buying these yet. They have been on my wish list for a while and last week i went out to London and i bought these!

Cantu Shea Butter
This product smells amazing, so much so that sometimes I just open the jar so I can smell it. It is a protein orientated product which when used helps to strengthen the keratin in your strands so that they are not so brittle. Now, I have heard good things about this and I'm really hoping it doesn't disappoint me quality wise but I shall hold my verdict until I use it.

Wave Nouveau Moisturizing Finishing Lotion by SoftSheenCarson

When my cousin and I started our Hair Journey's together she chose this for her moisturizer and she has loved it from day one. I have always wanted to try it and now that i finally have it I can finally form my own opinion of it. This is more moisture based and helps keep your hair from drying if used often.

Sweet Almond Oil
If any girl is to have just one product to help to after hair, it is any oil in my opinion. After trying several other oils I caught wind of another that everyone seemed to have as a favourite and i thought to myself: I have to have it. I am going to add this to my moisturizing spritz as soon as I can to help keep my braids in tip top shape.

I'll be making a post about my spritz in due time but before I do, have any of you tried these before, if so how have you found them?
